Trent and Claudia Smith and their three children – Lawson, Dakota and Hadley – would like to welcome you to Quartz Hill Quarter Horses, the home of Trent Smith Cutting Hoses.

Trent and Claudia have spent the past 10 years building on the legacy of a family whose name has been synonymous with the breeding and training of first-rate performance horses for the past 50 years.

It was following a successful three-year stint training and showing on the highly competitive cutting show circuit in the United States in 2012, that world title holder Trent returned home as the $2,000 limit World Champion, with the dream of establishing his own Quarter Horse breeding and training facility in Australia.

Today the 400 acre Quartz Hill Quarter Horses is located at the facility Trent’s parents - renowned standardbred horse Stud Masters, trainers and industry mentors Ken and Sue Smith - had built from scratch to become one of the most respected studs in the nation.

Proving the apple never falls far from the tree, Trent’s love of horses, the sport of cutting has earned him a reputation as an earnest and resolute trainer with an unwavering determination and work ethic that has seen him breed, train and show some of the best young cutting horses in the nation.

That’s translated to his accomplishments winning the Australian 2016 NCHA Futurity, the NCHA limited 1st 2nd and 3rd, followed by the NCHA Derby Championship and Co-Reserve Champion all in the same week. 2017 Toowoomba Futurity Champion 2017 Goondiwindi Derby Champion and his rating among the top 10 riders on national home turf.

Not bad for a lad who was initially self-taught and who earned his stripes under some of the best trainers in the world Gavin Jordan and David Costello. Trent and Claudia work hand in hand to ensure every horse that stands at Quartz Hill is safely accommodated, supported as it’s trained to its strengths.
